Ungoogled Chromium Removes Privacy-Breaking Features of Chromium
Chrome and its open source variant, Chromium, are great browsers, but there is no denying that Google has eyes deep inside to keep track of all sorts of things. Ungoogled Chromium is a custom build that removes as much of this material as possible.
Ungoogled Chromium is essentially a custom version of Chromium containing configuration flags, patches, and custom scripts designed to remove unwanted services that interact with Google. This ranges from small things like disabling automatic URL formatting in the omnibox to larger features like disabling JavaScript dialog boxes. Of course, you can always just use another browser that cares a little more about privacy , like Tor , Vivaldi , Opera, or Epic , but if you’re a big fan of Chrome or Chromium, apart from its tracking behavior, Ungoogled Chromium seems like a solid option. As you might expect, you can dig into the code on GitHub to see if it’s ready to go.
Update from September 29th : Our favorite cyber security expert (whom we quoted earlier on several questions) SwiftOnSecurity , let us know today that Ungoogled Chromium is a student project and has no way to update (and probably hasn’t been updated.) regarding we cannot recommend it. She recommends Brave if you want an alternative.
