What to Look for When Buying a New School Backpack
Whether you are buying a new backpack for your child or acquiring one for your own learning, these are the key features it should have.
In this video from YouTube channel Consumer Reports, Alex Willen explains what makes a good backpack. According to Willlen, the most important thing is how well the backpack fits and how it rests on the back. Backpack straps should be wide, soft and shaped, and the top of the strap should be 1 to 2 inches below your shoulders. The bottom of the backpack should rest on your lower back and never drop four inches below your waist (a waist belt may help). Villene says the ideal backpack distributes the weight evenly, which reduces stress on the back and shoulders. And if the backpack is for your child and usually comes home from school or from the bus stop, reflective trim will help keep it safe.
There are several things that you should also avoid . Look inside the backpack before buying it and look for loose threads, messy stitches, or rough, unfinished edges. Villene invites you to choose something else.
