WhatsApp and Facebook Now Share Data for Ad Targeting, Here’s How to Opt Out

Facebook and WhatsApp announced a new data sharing plan that will improve targeted ads and friend suggestions. If you don’t like the idea that Facebook and WhatsApp are so closely aligned, it’s easy to turn down.

You have two ways to do this. When you launch WhatsApp today, you will see the updated Terms of Service. There is a checkbox at the bottom of the screen. Uncheck the box, then click Agree and your data will not be shared.

If you’ve already blindfolded and didn’t notice this field, don’t worry, you can still opt out:

  1. Launch WhatsApp and click on “Settings”.
  2. Tap Account.
  3. Uncheck the box next to Share my account information.

While WhatsApp and Facebook don’t share any personal data, it’s still a bit off-putting, especially if you’re not a fan of targeted ads. If you’re interested in the rest of the new Terms of Service, WhatsApp has a handy FAQ section .

Looking forward to WhatsApp | Whatsapp
