Notes App on IPhone, Vesper App Quits, Here’s How to Save Your Data

Vesper was released in 2013 , and its notoriety was that the development team included Apple expert John Gruber, designer Dave Viscus and developer Brent Simmons. While it was nothing new, it was a robust note-taking app that a lot of people loved. Now it is closing and along with this news there is a new export function.

As with most note-taking apps, Vesper had a sync feature so you can sync your notes across devices. This sync service will be disabled on August 30th and all data will be destroyed. The app itself will be removed from the App Store on September 15th. If you’ve already downloaded the app, you can technically continue using it, although it won’t sync and there is no guarantee it will work in future versions of iOS.

Luckily, Vesper has been updated with a new export feature that dumps all your notes as TXT files:

  1. Tap the arrow in the upper left corner of the app.
  2. Select Export.
  3. Click Export Notes and Pictures.
  4. Choose where you want to send your notes (iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or Google Drive).

Each note is exported as a separate TXT file and each image is exported as JPG. It’s not ideal, but at least it should be easy enough to send your data to your new note-taking app .
