Transform an Old Window Screen Into a Hanging Herb Garden

We’ve discussed several ways to turn a garden into a small space , but this method is especially interesting. Just grab your old window dividers, wood waste, a pair of hinges and a screwdriver, and of course herbs and pots.

The image above pretty much tells the story, but you can trace the entire story from the idea to the finished herb garden at Sassy Sparrow (link below). You will need a pair of old window screens, the size of your choice, but this project used two old wood screens that you could probably find at an architecture store, or simply repurpose if you replace your own . If you use plastic screens, the project still works, you just need more spacers and more weight to keep it from toppling over. Speaking of spacers, you will need two pieces of wood to help stabilize the garden, and the hinge at the top holds the two screens together at the top.

From there, grab the herbs – ideally already in pots – and attach them to the screens with flexible wire or plastic. With this, everything is ready. If you do everything Sassy Sparrow did with a shelf around the base of the screens, you can add even more plants and spruce up a portion of your garden with fresh herbs that have plenty of room to grow. If you have less space, stick to screens and possibly a few plants on the screens themselves that you can easily care for. Anyway, click the link below to see more photos of the project.
