Eye-Fi Overrides and Does Not Merge Older Devices
Wi-Fi -enabled SD card maker Eye-Fi announced last month that it would end support for older devices . Good news: they decided to make the last piece of software for these old cards to keep them working.
Eye-Fi will create a new utility for X2 and legacy products to automatically download camera data to Mac. The release, however, is a little strange, here is what Eye-Fi reports on this :
The X2U will be a one-time release allowing the continued use of the EOL card affected for desktop transfer only on a transitional basis. The utility will not have all the features of Eye-Fi Center and / or Eye-Fi View. ALL other software provided by Eye-Fi will need to be uninstalled before installing the X2U on a supported device. The company will provide the X2U documentation and knowledge base, but will not provide support, warranties, and limited terms of service.
That said, while it looks like it won’t be fully functional, it’s better than nothing. It looks like they’re still looking into a Windows solution, but at least Mac users can download the new utility right now from here . Visit the Eye-Fi site for more information.
