The Easiest and Hardest Pokémon to Catch in Pokémon Go
If it seems like some Pokémon in Pokémon Go are much more difficult to catch than others, you are not crazy. Each Pokémon in the game has a predefined base difficulty when you try to catch them.
This video from YouTube Tech Insider highlights a few more secrets people have learned from Pokémon Go programming. According to the game code, all Pokémon have a different base capture speed, which determines how difficult it is to capture them. Base Capture Speed refers to the likelihood that a regular PokéBall will catch a Pokémon without any help. Here are some examples:
- The Magikarp is the easiest to catch, with a base catch rate of 56%. Oddly second most difficult, with a base capture rate of 48%.
- Caterpie, Vidle, Pidgey and Rattata have a base capture rate of 40%.
- Venusaur, Blastoise, Charizard and Dragonite are currently the hardest to catch with a base capture rate of 4%.
However, when you are trying to catch a Pokemon, there is more to it. Pokémon tier, escape speed and throwing accuracy all affect your chances , not to mention items like Razz Berries and the best PokéBalls. Legendary Pokémon like Mew, Mewtwo, Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres currently have a base grab rate of 0%, suggesting that getting them will be some sort of special event.
