Convert Milk or Water Jugs Into Portable Reusable Containers
The next time you empty a plastic milk or water jug rather than recycle it, turn it into a reusable container for sandwiches, wrappers, salads, and snacks. You only need a few household items and a few minutes.
After you clean the empty water or milk jug (and you must clean them first), cut out the crescent moon on three sides. On the side of the jug opposite the handle, make a notch all the way to the top to form a jar lid. The bottom of the pitcher will be the bottom of the container, and the sides of the pitcher will fold like valves to seal off your food. If the flaps do not fold, cut slots in each corner of the container to make the flaps longer and more flexible.
To secure the container, you can sew on a button at the top, or tie a reclosable knot through the slots at the top with string. Best of all, these containers are easy to clean. Keep in mind that they are durable and reclosable, but not airtight. Stick to food packaging that does not leak.
