Google Fit Update Brings Weekly Goals and Better Visuals
Google Fit continues its progress, starting a modest step forward with a major update. It now shows you much more detail about your workouts and presents the collected data in a more convenient way.
Fit now has a home screen that displays workouts in cards in a Google Now style. But that’s not all: at the top of the screen, you can always see your workout minutes, miles, calories and steps for the day. Below are your goals, followed by your workouts and other flashcards.
Whereas the old Google Fit allowed you to set a daily goal, for example 30 minutes of exercise per day, now the update allows you to set more than one type of goal. You can set a goal for a week or a month, such as “run four times.” The home screen also displays your progress towards this goal and past achievement of this goal. Right now, I can see that this week I hit my 30 minute goal every day except Sunday, and that I hit my goal of four runs in a week by three runs.
Another new feature is Google Fit keeps track of your bests, like your longest and farthest run. I have removed the map for now, but Fit promises that it will let me know when I break these records.
The Fit home screen also has a chart of your weight and a graph that tries to even out daily fluctuations. On the other hand, it’s a better display than my Withings scale app provides. On the other hand, he memorized my pregnancy weight gain and weight loss last year and smoothed them into freaky postpartum weight gain.
The update also includes a new watch face for Android Wear and a new home screen widget.
