Essential Utensils for a Home Bar
Different types of cocktails require different glassware . And if you’re setting up your own home bar for parties, you should at least have the basics.
In this video from the Cocktail Chemistry YouTube channel, you will learn about the different types of cocktail glasses that come with a basic home bar. Here’s what you need:
- Old Fashioned Glass (aka Rock Glass or Glass) : Suitable for low-pellet cocktails, which are usually served on rocks, or for liqueurs served neat.
- Steam glass (or cocktail glass) : Best for mixed cocktails served up or without ice.
- Collins Glass : Best for soda cocktails like Tom Collins.
- Martini Glass : Also used for ice-free cocktails, especially martini.
- Nick and Nora Glass : Serves the same purpose as a martini glass, but its curved shape reduces the chance of spills.
- Champagne glass : Whether you want a champagne cocktail or just sparkling wine, a flute glass is the best way to serve it.
- Copper Mug : This is the iconic Moscow Mule glass that adds flavor to any cocktail like this.
Other than that, throw in a couple of decent wine glasses and you’ll be ready for whatever evening you have. Can you serve almost any cocktail in any cup? Sure, but it’s not ideal for some of the more flavorful cocktails, and it’s hard to make a home bar beautiful if you only have red Solo cups. Fortunately, you can find a lot of these for cheap. I bought mine at the dollar store. To your health.
