Why You Should Always Redeem Amazon Visa Rewards for Cash

The Chase Amazon Visa card is one of your favorite reward cards. It’s easy to see why with 3% cashback on your Amazon purchases and 1-2% elsewhere. Lifehacker alumnus Kyle James says you’ll get even more rewards if you redeem your points for cash rather than Amazon credit.

On his Rather Be Shopping site, James explains that when you use your rewards to cover a purchase on Amazon, you are not collecting points for that purchase.

For example, if your Points reduce the cost of a $ 300 item to $ 220, you will receive 660 Reward Points per purchase ($ 220 x 3). But if you cash out your points or request a credit on your statement and then use your card to make the same $ 300 purchase, you get 900 points instead of 660 ($ 300 x 3). Remember, you will receive the same dollar amount regardless of whether you cash out or redeem points directly when you buy on Amazon, which makes this trick a breeze.

In his example, James points out that you could earn 240 extra points simply by changing how those points are redeemed. This is a simple tip to remember if you have a card. For more details, skip to his full post below.
