YouTube Adds Live Streaming to Its Mobile App

Live video has been available on YouTube for years, but you can only stream it on your desktop browser. This is about to change as Youtube is launching live streaming on its mobile app today.

Facebook Live and Periscope are dominating the current wave of mobile live video, so YouTube is trying to catch up. While they innovate in other areas (such as 360-degree video and even 360-degree live streams from Coachella ), these features rarely prioritize creating mobile video for ordinary people. With the new Live Streaming feature, you can stream using only the YouTube app on your phone.

They are launching today with multiple YouTube users at VidCon , a popular conference for video creators, so this feature may not be available to everyone right away. They promise to expand live coverage “soon”.
