Rest of the Day: Opera Targets Microsoft’s Battery Life Claims
Opera has denied Microsoft’s claims that its Edge browser is your best bet for extending your laptop’s battery life. Shocker: Opera claims their battery saver mode is a real battery saver. Hey, of course, I’ll go with anything that will allow me to watch ten hours of Netflix in one sitting.
- Opera laid out the exact details of its own tests in a blog post and also criticized Microsoft’s fuzzy and opaque methodology. Unsurprisingly, in their own tests, Opera lasted 22 percent longer than Edge with power saving enabled. Come on! To be honest, it depends on your hardware, OS and other variables, so your results may vary. [Opera]
- In other news, you can now make Evernote a little more private on your phone by storing your notes with a password. Previously, this feature was available to premium users, but now it’s free for everyone. Of course, you should have a lock anyway, but if you let someone tinker with it, you can at least relax, because your Evernote diary is behind the lock and key. [Evernote]
- The future of online TV à la carte continues as Viacom launches BET streaming service for $ 3.99 a month. The app allows you to watch some of the original BET programs and awards on iOS and Android; there seems to be no web option. [The Verge]
- If you control the Sonos speaker from your iPhone, you can finally set up playback from your phone’s lock screen. Sonos recently updated their iOS app to add the much -needed lock screen functionality to it, as well as a few other features like 3D Touch and split-screen mode. [The Next Web]
