Android Play Store Coming to Dev Channel Chromebook Flip, More Devices Coming Soon

Chrome OS: About a month ago, Google announced that the Play Store would move to Chrome OS and bring with it over a million Android apps. Implementation starts today. If you own a Chromebook Flip ( one of our favorites ), you can switch to the Developer Channel and try it now.

Developer Channel is not meant for everyday use by casual users, so you probably shouldn’t install it on the device you need every day. To switch to Developer Channel on your Chromebook Flip, follow these steps:

  1. Click your profile icon in the lower right corner of the screen.
  2. Click “Settings”.
  3. At the top of the screen, click About Chrome OS and select More Info.
  4. Click the “Change channel …” button.
  5. Select Develop from the drop-down menu.

This will download the developer channel update. After installing it, restart your computer and the Play Store will appear in the application bar. For now, only the Chromebook Flip appears to be supported, but Chromium official evangelist François Beaufort says more devices will be released “very soon”.
