What the Numbers on Your Boarding Pass Really Mean
As you travel, you quickly scan your boarding pass for exit numbers and seating. However, if you look closely, you will find that there is quite a lot of information on this piece of paper, and this infographic will tell you what it all means.
Of course, the main purpose of a boarding pass is to track your identity and check-in, but it also reveals details of how you purchased your ticket and what benefits come with your flight.
For example, as The Huffington Post points out, there is a small letter on your ticket stating your chances for an upgrade. According to the airline ticket code, the letter “Y” on your ticket (as shown in the picture below) means that you are traveling in Economy Class, and “Q” means that you have purchased a discounted Economy Class flight. You probably already know which class you are in, but the “B” on your ticket means you are eligible for an upgrade you might not know about.
