History Here Allows You to Explore Historical Sites Nearby

(Android / iOS): It’s always fun to think about the story you are in – who was there, what could have happened. History Here is an interactive application that allows you to explore historical sites nearby.

The app comes from the History Channel and displays thousands of historical sites across the United States. Like other maps, you can use it to explore nearby interesting places, but instead of restaurants and bars, it will tell you a little about the history around you.

They explain:

Learn facts about the history hidden all around you, including architecture, museums, battlefields, monuments, famous houses and more! And now you can explore TOURS, a new feature that uses locations to explore historical themes and themes such as Marilyn Monroe’s Hollywood, Atlanta Civil War, and Chicago Al Capone. WE ALWAYS ADD MORE INTEREST. Do you know a place that is not in the application? Use the “Suggest a Seat” function to send it to the HISTORY editorial office.

Some of these spots are pretty obvious. For example, it displays museums, and if the Met is in your backyard, chances are you know about it. However, this can come in handy when you are traveling to a new city.

He also points out some lesser known places. I mapped my old neighborhood in Houston, for example, and found myself living right next to Howard Hughes’ childhood home (actually part of St.Thomas University, but easy to visit). In addition to historic houses and museums, the app also displays the tombs of historical figures and places where historical events took place. Pick a spot on the map for a short history lesson.

You can save waypoints and also get alerts when you walk near a mapped area. The app also contains a list of specially selected tours to different cities. See for yourself using the link below.
