Changed Instagram Chronology Is Now Available to Everyone
A few months ago, much to the dismay of internet content creators, Instagram announced a plan to reorder your timeline using an algorithm similar to Facebook’s news feed. Now they actually do it.
Since its inception, the Instagram feed has been chronological, but obviously when it’s chronological we all miss out on important things, which is why Instagram is going to use an algorithm to reorder. Here is their explanation:
On average, people miss 70 percent of their feed. As Instagram grows, it becomes more difficult to keep track of all the photos and videos people post. Over the past few months, we’ve introduced this new way of organizing sub-community posts and have found that people are more attracted to photos, comment more, and generally engage with the community more actively.
With this new order, you won’t miss the video of your favorite band after the concert, even if it took place around the world in a different time zone. And no matter how many accounts you follow, you should see your best friend’s latest posts.
This feature has been available to users since at least last night, although none of us at Lifehacker have noticed it yet. One thing’s for sure: you’ll likely see a slew of those nasty notifications turned on again.
