The Rest of the Day: Google Makes It Easy to Find Your Lost Phone
As it gets warmer and I switch from jeans to my traditional summer muumuu, I always worry that my phone might slip out of those billowing flower pockets and go astray. Luckily, Google makes it easy to access your lost phone, and even swipes it remotely when needed.
- Google has added several new features and controls to its My Account center, where you can manage security and privacy settings for your accounts. You can now use this page to find your phone if it is missing , and soon you can simply google “I lost my phone” to access this feature. Previously, you had to use Android Device Manager to locate or wipe your lost device remotely. IOS users can use it too, but it really just directs you to iCloud. [Google]
- More variety of emojis will appear on Facebook Messenger. Starting today, you will be able to choose from five skin tones, and many emojis depicting professionals (such as cop and surfer) are now available for women. For you, tiny professional surfer. : ized_hands :: thumbsup :: clap: [Facebook]
- Google Now On Tap has received several new features today. Now you can use images as search terms and choose exactly the text you want to find (handy if you want to use it as a system-wide dictionary). Image integration is good too – you can just point your camera at something like a bay bridge, and without even taking a picture, Now On Tap can recognize and find it. We said last year that Now On Tap is cool, but not that useful , so it’s good to know they’re working on it. [Google via The Next Web ]
- WWDC, Apple’s Developers Conference, will be held June 13-17 with a keynote address at 10:00 AM PT on the 13th. Apple is expected to reveal the latest versions of its software, including the Siri SDK, to open up the virtual assistant for third-party integrations. About a month ago, the dates were (by chance?) Announced via Siri , which may not have been a coincidence. [9to5Mac]
