Why Does the Sound of Flowing Water Want to Go to the Toilet

Some people like the sound of flowing water because it helps them to relax. For others, it makes them want to urinate. This is not a coincidence, and it happens more often than you think – all thanks to the power of suggestion.

Suggestion is an elusive force that can influence our behavior, how we perceive things, and how we act later. Regarding the need to urinate, this SciShow video explains the obvious: running water is very similar to urinating. And throughout your life, doing the same ritual in the bathroom – peeing, hearing a sound, flushing the toilet and (hopefully) washing your hands afterward – you associate many of the sounds in the bathroom with urine.

And now that you’ve read this, you probably ca n’t help but think about running water and will probably want to pee right now. You are welcome.
