Ideal Posture and Workplace Setup for Healthy Desk Workers

By now, everyone knows that sitting all day harms your body , so it’s important to get moving and stay active. But just as important is how you sit between those breaks. Physiotherapist Joan Gough has a short video that explains the ideal sitting posture and how to set up your workplace accordingly.

The video summarizes the basics of good posture, whether you’re working at a desk or sitting on the couch with your laptop. An ergonomic office chair is ideal, but it also needs to be used correctly. For example, Gough says that you need to make sure that you:

  • Move your butt as far back as possible.
  • Adjust the seat height so that your knees are slightly lower than your hips.
  • Use a rolled towel or the lumbar support of your chair on the curve of your lower back.
  • Position the keyboard so that your elbows are bent at a 90-degree angle.
  • Align the G key with your navel.

Watch the video for a quick 4-minute guide on Do’s and Don’ts so you don’t have chronic back pain in the future.
