You Can Now Customize Your Google Keyboard With Themes and Background Images

Android. Google Keyboard is a pretty good default keyboard, but it still lacks some of the features of third-party offerings like themes. The latest keyboard update changes this.

Google Keyboard 5.1, which is technically installed on older versions of Android like Jelly Bean, contains a new theme engine. This allows you to choose from a variety of themes, including different keyboard color schemes, or choose your own background image. 5.1 also comes with a new set of emojis from the Unicode 9 update, but unfortunately it’s limited to what’s in the latest Android N Preview . To try out new themes, download the APK from the source below.

Update: A previous version of this article said that you need to have a preview version of Android N in order to use the new keyboard themes. It has been updated to correct this bug.
