Opera Power Saving Mode Saves Battery Power for Longer Laptop Viewing

Windows / Mac / Linux: Opera has released another update for its browser , this time introducing a power saving mode that supposedly increases battery life by 50%.

Power saving mode reduces activity on background tabs, wakes the CPU from hibernation less often, automatically pauses unused plugins, lowers the frame rate to 30fps, tweaks some video playback codecs, and pauses any animation in browser themes. In Opera tests, they found that battery life increased by about an hour compared to regular Chrome and Opera. If you’re working on a laptop, that’s a pretty big boost. We haven’t had a chance to test how useful this is, but the logic is quite reasonable. You can try it in the newest version of Opera.
