Netflix Adds Data Usage Controls to Mobile Apps to Reduce Data Consumption

Android / iOS: Last month, Netflix started testing a data save feature to help you control the video stream quality when you’re on a cellular network so you don’t overload your data plan. Now it is available to everyone.

The new setting allows you to choose from a variety of video quality options for your stream, from low to unlimited. Each of them transfers a different amount of data per hour. Low consumes about 1 GB for four hours of video, while high consumes about 1 GB for one hour. Automatic is on by default, which means Netflix will automatically lower quality when you’re not connected to Wi-Fi. So, if you prefer a higher quality stream, you can go to the app settings and change this switch now.
