Cross Out the Match in Other Matches If You Don’t Have a Strike Anywhere

If you don’t have matches and the bumping surface on your matchbox is worn out, this last trick can help you start a fire.

This video from youtuber MrGear shows you a smart option if you can’t get your match to light in a pinch. You can try such places as the zipper of his trousers , or other abrasive surfaces, but they do not always work. This amazing technique, while a bit wasteful overall, will get the job done. Remove five matches from the box and hold four of them together so that the striking ends are square or box-shaped. Take the fifth match and stick the striking end into the gap between the striking ends of the other four matches. Now turn a single match and click. After several attempts, the match and other matches will light up. You might be able to do this with less overlap to cut down on waste (some say this is only possible with two), but your mileage may vary. Of course, you can also turn your regular matches into strikes anywhere if you have the time.
