Facebook Creates Bots so You Can Chat With Companies in the Messenger

At its F8 event today, Facebook announced that it is creating a platform for developers to create bots that you can chat with directly on Facebook Messenger.

The new platform is designed to make calls to 800 numbers obsolete. Companies can create chat bots with which users can communicate in real time without having to contact a person on the phone. Bots will be able to answer questions, take orders, and ask questions to clarify what the user wants.

The company used 1-800-Flowers as an example. Mark Zuckerberg demonstrated how he placed an order for flowers and delivered them to another executive without leaving Facebook Messenger. The beta version of the API is available today. You can expect Facebook to move quickly to match Microsoft’s efforts in the same area .
