Develop Together a Way to Connect Your IPad or IPhone Over Ethernet

Both iPhones and iPads have built-in Wi-Fi, which works great, but if for some reason you prefer an Ethernet connection, blogger Jacob Salmela will show you how.

You just put together a set of adapters for this to work. You will need: iOS device, Ethernet cable, Apple Lightning to USB cable , A / C adapter , USB Ethernet adapter, Lightning to USB camera adapter (or powered USB hub). Once you’ve pieced together all of this nonsense, you have to follow a very specific set of steps to get online:

  1. Connect the USB to Ethernet adapter to the camera adapter.
  2. Connect the Ethernet cable to the USB to Ethernet adapter.
  3. Connect the Ethernet cable to the router.
  4. Connect the Lightning cable to the camera adapter.
  5. Connect the Lightning cable to your power adapter (or powered USB hub).
  6. Plug the power adapter (or powered USB hub) into the wall.
  7. Connect the camera adapter (or powered USB hub) to your iOS device.

This is definitely a hackish solution, but it is also a problem that most of us do not need to solve. However, if you need to connect your iOS device to a wired connection, this seems to be the only way to do it. Visit Salmela’s website for full details.
