Space-Saving Artist Workstation

Motion Graphics Designer and Cinematographer Tyler Sparks sent in this snapshot of his compact workspace in his Brooklyn apartment and we loved it. It’s a great place to work, makes good use of vertical space, and has many personalities as well as productivity tools.

Tyler showcases his work on his website if you’re wondering what he creates out of this angular workspace, including videos like this gem that he sent when I spoke to him. When I asked him more details about the space, he explained:

This home office workstation is used for motion graphics and editing with Adobe software. The table is an adjustable SIS SC table, standing or sitting. Pictured above is a large Wacom Intuos 3 tablet, a Microsoft trackball mouse. The pair of monitors is a NEC MutliSync LCD2470WVX 24 “color calibrated. The output wall monitor is a 32-inch Samsung TV connected via HDMI via a BlackMagic HDMI PCI video output card. There are also Bose 2.1 speakers for audio monitoring.

My wife and I are both editors, and I work a lot in animation for the advertising industry, as well as making documentaries.

Speaking of color calibration, Tyler has another shot of his desk where he calibrates color here . While the iPad on the table is a nifty gimmick that I think a lot of people will understand and identify with, I especially love the 32-inch TV on the wall above his workspace for anything he wants to keep track of without cluttering it up. I would probably use it for video, streaming, or just any other window that I would like to control without interfering with my work.

What about the technology he uses for all this? Tyler continued:

It’s a pretty good setup with plenty of horsepower and storage to work with. If you enjoy it as much as we do, head over to his Flickr page (link below) and tell him how great it is – and what we sent you!

If you have your own workspace to show off, share it with us by adding it to our Lifehacker Workspace Show and Tell Flickr pool . Make sure all photos you add are at least 1280×720 in size. Maintaining their 16: 9 aspect ratio also helps! Include a little text about what you used, how you came up with the design, and any other important details. If your smart organization and good design flair are striking, you could be the next workplace ambassador!
