OpenToonz, the 2D Animation Program Used by Studio Ghibli, Is Now Free
Toonz, the software used to create Studio Ghibli movies like Spirited Away and TV shows like Steven Universe and Futurama is now called OpenToonz. It is open source and any aspiring animator can download and use it for free.
OpenToonz is a powerful 2D animation software that anyone can now use to create commercial or non-commercial animations. And since it’s open source, you can modify the source code and develop your own tools as you see fit. You can also download the Dwango Effects plugin and the GTS scan tool developed by Studio Ghibli for free. However, keep in mind that using professional tools won’t make you an animator overnight.
