Clean the Grease Filter on the Stove With Boiling Water and Baking Soda

Hood filters are one of those things that people forget to clean regularly because they don’t usually see them. But they can get pretty annoying and even dangerous if you don’t take the time to clean them.

If you remember to do this regularly, you can simply put the filter in the dishwasher and rinse it with hot water. This is assuming it fits in your dishwasher. But if you’ve neglected yours for a while, this is probably a greasier and darker mess than your dishwasher can handle. Jillee’s One Good Thing suggests taking the deepest saucepan, boil water with about 1/2 cup of baking soda, and toss in the filter for ten minutes or so. Most filters are long, so you will probably have to process half a side at a time.
