Best National Parks to Visit While It’s Winter

National parks are traditionally spring or summer destinations, but some do shine in cool weather. Here are a few to check before it gets hot.

Don’t let colder temperatures and snow get in the way of taking in great views, hiking, or simply taking in the breathtaking scenery. Try on these public areas for size:

  • Everglades National Park, Florida: Your visit will take place during the dry season, which means lots of sun, 70s temperatures and fewer mosquitoes.
  • Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah: You can enjoy stargazing in winter as well as the rest of the year, plus you can visit during the full moon phases to enjoy the incredible mix of earth and sky together. Rangers even conduct snowshoe hikes on full moon nights. Check out their full moon hiking schedule here .
  • Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming: Avoid the crowds by visiting one of the most popular parks when there is snow on the ground. You can still drive through most of the park while admiring beautiful landscapes such as frozen waterfalls and geothermal springs.

If you need inspiration on what to do in each of these parks, see what activities they offer in winter by visiting the National Park Service website . Find your park in the search bar and click the “Plan your visit” link. If something happens in the park, information about it will be in the link “Winter entertainment”.
