Sellers Who Accept Expired Coupons

Coupons may be missed or missed, but some stores offer good savings. Best of all, many of these stores don’t give a damn if your coupon has expired, they’ll accept it anyway. Rather, Be Shopping tells us which stores usually accept expired coupons.

Kyle James of Rather Be Shopping offers some general advice on using expired coupons. He suggests that you always be polite and never ask them to accept your coupon because they don’t have to. With this in mind, your results may vary depending on location.

However, here are a few stores on his list:

CVS Pharmacy : CVS changed its coupon policy back in 2013 to reject expired coupons a little stricter. But … this is not a hard and fast rule, and many cashiers still have the option to override the system and accept an expired coupon.

Petsmart : I have reliable information from a current employee that Petsmart will indeed accept expired coupons. The catch is that these must be coupons from Petsmart itself, not manufacturer’s coupons. She told me that they actually accept Petsmart coupons for up to 6 months after they expire.

Lowe’s : I was installing laminate flooring in my home last fall and needed tools to get the job done. So I went to Lowe’s with an expired store coupon in my pocket. Let’s say the coupon expired just 2 days earlier, but my cashier immediately canceled the action to make the coupon valid. I asked if this was standard policy and he said that most cashiers will revoke an expired coupon if it has expired within the last 7 days.

Bed Bath and Beyond : The famous 20% off any 1-item coupon from Bed Bath & Beyond can really save you money, especially on larger purchases. But what happens if you can find an expired coupon just before you go shopping? Simple. Use that bad guy anyway, as he will either be accepted or the cashier will pull out an “expired” coupon from behind the counter and scan it for you.

Here’s another tip for Bed Bath and Beyond: If you buy a series of products and don’t have a coupon, they often let you return to the store for a discount when you do receive coupons in the mail. I did this a while ago when I spent a shameful amount on curtain panels. They wouldn’t give me a discount right there, but they said I could come back with coupons and they’ll refund the difference if I have a receipt. Again, your own experience may be different.

James lists a bunch of additional popular retailers on his list, so check them out below.
