I’ve always thought people were exaggerating about “full pay.” Then I recently went to Whole Foods for the first time, and wow! Their prices are notoriously high, but there are several products you can actually get cheaper in whole foods and WiseBread lists a few of them.

According to WiseBread writer Damian Davila, Whole Foods is trying to shake off its reputation for ridiculously expensive food, which is why they’ve cut prices in recent years. Here are a few things Davila says are cheaper in most parts of the country:

Canned Organic Black Beans

Food bloggers began to notice that a can of organic black beans was cheaper at Whole Foods back in 2008. Additional price comparisons in subsequent years have continued to confirm the lower price of canned organic black beans at Whole Foods than at major grocery chains.

Extra virgin olive oil

Here’s a product that is guaranteed to yield big savings.

It doesn’t matter if it’s organic or regular virgin olive oil (cold processed), Whole Foods olive oil is cheaper. 33.8 oz. A bottle of organic virgin (cold processed) butter was $ 4 cheaper at Whole Foods ($ 12.99) in Seattle than at the nearby Safeway store ($ 16.99).


Pound for pound, almonds are the savings winner at Whole Foods.

  • A pound of whole almonds was at least $ 2 cheaper than Harris Teeter, Kroger, and Walmart.
  • For $ 5.99, you get just nine ounces of Snack Artist branded almonds at Safeway, and a whopping 16 ounces of 365 Everyday Value almonds at Whole Foods.
