Make Your Own “USB Condom” for Extra Safety When Charging From Unreliable USB Ports
If you need to quickly charge your phone or other device, you can simply plug it into any old unreliable computer or public charging station. The chances of getting malicious data on your phone are quite small , but still there. At the site, they demonstrate a way to ensure that only power can flow through the USB port.
Basically, you’ll be taking apart a couple of different USB connectors and then piecing them together to create a connection that blocks data transfer but allows power to be turned on. You will need some light soldering skills, but otherwise this is an easy project to do on your own. This is probably not a necessity for most of us, but it’s a fun little thing anyway.
