Why Do We Like the Smell of Our Own Bunch

Farts strange. It seems perfectly okay for one to explode, even though it might be a smelly bomb. We can tolerate our own, but if someone else cuts the cheese? Oh hell no. They are unbearable.

Okay, we know what you’re thinking: “Rough, is this science?” and “Shoot, how did they know?” Yes, and we just do that because we were all there. Farting is a completely normal (and necessary) function of our gorgeous human bodies. Gas builds up in our intestines for a number of reasons. This could be due to inadvertent swallowing of too much air, byproducts of bacteria that live in our intestines and help us digest food, or chemical reactions in the intestines. All this gas needs to be released somehow. In general, it would be strange if you did not skip gasoline at all !

Leave it to AsapSCEINCE to help answer some of your most pressing questions in an understandable way. In the video, they suggest that we may “prefer” the smell of our own fart because it is familiar and contains a genetic signature unique to each of us. Interestingly, your tolerance for the fart in general is based on other factors such as age, culture, and personality. Watch the AsapSCIENCE video above to find out more.
