Take the Initiative to Invite Your Colleagues and Chat on Your Terms

Not everyone agrees with corporate visits and work-related social events. They are also important to your career . If you can’t answer yes to colleagues’ invitations, start sending out invitations yourself.

As Business Blog Inc. notes, communication at work can be difficult if you are not the outgoing type of person. Or you may simply not like the activities that involve your colleagues. While there will always be some element of “getting over it” with your coworkers, you can make your life a little easier by taking back some control of the situation:

It won’t be easy, but if you find that you don’t want to accept any job invitations, you may need to be an inviter. You will likely find that going out for a beer with Kev and Sophia in the accounting department early (if you can) on Friday is much better than just diving into work.

Maybe a poker night is none of your business, but going to the movies is your business. Or maybe you don’t want to join the baseball team of a company with fifteen other people, but you don’t mind taking a couple of people you like to dinner. By changing the setting to your preferred setting, you can make it easier to connect with people in your company or industry and forge true professional relationships .
