Prevent Super Sticky Dough From Sticking to Your Hands With a Little Oil

Many recipes recommend tormenting your hands with flour to prevent the yeast dough from sticking to your fingers, but this can lead to inadvertently adding a lot of flour to the recipe. A little oil on your hands will work as well.

According to Alexandra Stafford of Food52, all the flour you add to your countertop, rolling pin, and hands can make the dough too floury if you’re not careful. However, yeast dough can be very sticky, so Stafford recommends lightly brushing your hands with canola or other neutral-tasting butter. You can even put some oil on a metal baking sheet if you find it difficult to stick to the dough work surface. Just don’t overdo it, or you will end up with a very crispy dough when baking.
