Going the extra mile is a great way to separate from the pack, but it’s not the only way. Instead of going the extra mile every now and then, consider adding more points in every activity you do.

Sure, there’s nothing wrong with putting in the extra effort, but Josh Linkner of Inc. believes this advice has become a bit of a cliché and difficult to follow. If you are a student, an extra inch can be 10 extra minutes of class per day. If you’re a software engineer, it might require another round of testing before launching. Those working on projects can add one additional idea or concept that was not part of the specifications, but will take the task to the next level. Scientists can add one additional experiment, and athletes can add one additional set in the gym.
