Pickled Onions Are the Perfect Gift for the DIY Cocktail Lover

Fancy cocktail ammunition make fantastic gifts, and this pickled pearl bow is great in Gibson (or on top of chicken liver mousse).

It only takes you ten minutes to cook them, a couple of bags of frozen pearl onions, red wine vinegar, and some sugar and spices (click on the link below to see which Epicurious recommends). Cook the defrosted onions for about four minutes and set aside. Toast the four spices for a couple of minutes, add the vinegar and sugar (and any other additives such as red pepper flakes or fresh thyme) and heat to dissolve. Pour the onion over the top and let cool to room temperature. Refrigerate for at least 12 hours. Serve onions at a fabulous holiday party as a side dish with a cocktail or cheese board, or spoon into jars for a thoughtful and delicious gift.
