Nomad RoadTrip Is a USB Car Charger and Battery in One

USB car chargers are common, but less common are those that continue to charge your equipment when the car is turned off, or that can be used as a power bank. The Nomad RoadTrip is both, it will charge your phone while you drive, but it will also keep your phone running with a built-in 3000mAh battery.

Roadtrip will set you back $ 40 directly or on Amazon . The concept is pretty simple, but I was skeptical until I tried it. I mean, if you’re charging your phone in a car, you probably don’t need that charger also has a battery, right? Well, that’s true, but if you have a car that won’t charge, if the keys are removed from the ignition, or the engine doesn’t work, the phone hardly works, and you need to run to the store for something, RoadTrip will charge while you no, and then when you get back in the car, it will get out of the engine (and recharge in the process). It might be a niche case, but I can just as easily imagine charging while I’m driving somewhere without fully charging, and then grab the RoadTrip and put it in my pocket to keep charging while I’m on the go. Either way, your phone is charging.

However, RoadTrip isn’t perfect. It has two charging ports (slow 1.5A each). One is standard USB and the other is USB-C, which means you’ll need a certain combination of devices (or cables) to charge two things at the same time. It also only charges from your car, so you can’t use it and plug it into the wall to charge the internal battery. If you usually travel from one place with a power outlet to another place with a power outlet, or never leave your phone (or other device) in your car for anything, let alone recharging, this is probably not for you. However, those people who can see the usefulness of a car charger and battery in the same device, or who want to carry one less item with them, should take a look.
