Add IP Address and OS Version Display to OS X Login Page

The login screen on Mac is intentionally stripped of information, but if you want to add a little more information, MacIssues will show you how to do it using a terminal command.

Once you run this command, you can click on the clock in the menu bar to switch between the computer’s IP address, OS version, and system name. An IP address comes in very handy if you need to SSH into your Mac for any reason and don’t feel like logging in. Whatever your reason, there is only one parameter to enable this, which can be configured on the command line. Open Terminal (Applications> Utilities) and enter:

by default sudo write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow AdminHostInfo HostName

That’s it, you can now quickly view the information on the login screen.
