Uber Rules for 11 Major US Cities

Uber is a convenient way to get around most cities, but getting to the airport can be challenging. Uber can be used to pick up and drop off at airports in some cities, but there are rules and disadvantages to keep in mind. Travel + Leisure reveals them.

The rules seem to change periodically, but Travel + Leisure offers a current picture of what your Uber options look like across the country. Here are a few highlights on their list:

  • Los Angeles: While LA Mayor Eric Garcetti has announced that Uber and Lyft will be able to pick up passengers at Los Angeles airport this summer, it now looks like it can’t happen until Thanksgiving or perhaps at the end of the year.
  • Chicago : Sharing services such as Uber and Lyft will be able to pick up passengers at O’Hare and Midway airports starting in 2016 . For now, travelers can use taxis or public transport. The CTA connects O’Hare and Midway to downtown Chicago . Metra North is another way to get to O’Hare.
  • New York : The Port Authority is considering charging fees for access to Uber and other sharing services, but this is unlikely to impact vacation travel plans. Currently, Uber has allocated sections near John F Kennedy, Laguardia and Newark airports where drivers are waiting to be identified. Please be aware that waiting times can be long due to the high demand for taxis and fellow travelers.

It’s worth noting that these rules apply to standard UberX rides. Rules for UberSUV and UberBlack may differ. For more information and a complete list of cities, see their post at the link below.
