Facebook Launches New Mobile Tools to Ease Breakup of Relationships

It can be painful to go from being an “official on Facebook” to being regular old friends on Facebook, and Facebook is trying to make the whole breakup process more manageable.

Starting today, Facebook is testing tools for anyone who changes their relationship status to show that they are no longer in a relationship. If you are going through this now, you will be prompted to try new tools. If you do this, there are several things you can do that can reduce the pain of a tear. You can choose:

  • Less visible is the name and avatar of your ex-partner on Facebook.
  • Remove their posts from your news feed.
  • Don’t suggest your name when people are texting or tagging friends in photos.
  • Limit the number of your photos, videos, and status updates they can see.
  • Specify who can see your past posts related to your ex.

To access these tools, you need to change relationships through the Facebook mobile app. Again, these tools are only in the testing phase right now, but it looks like they might be useful if you need a little space to heal while still trying to maintain some form of friendship.
