HIBR Pillow Keeps You Cool, Might Be the Last Pillow You Ever Buy

Finding the right pillow was a bit of a myth for me. I want something solid and supportive, but with enough impact. I also want my head to stay cool. For a long time I thought I would never find it – then I tried HIBR Pillow and it changed the rules of the game. It’s not perfect … but pretty close.

First, a few details. The purpose HIBR and pillows – to offer a new type of foam with the effect of memory, which is different from what you get today: the type of foam that supports your head and neck, but also solves the major problem with foam with memory effect: the temperature and breathability.

The HIBR Pillow is a Kickstarter success story (formerly called Fohm Pillow), comes in three forms and will set you back $ 80. That’s a lot for a pillow, even for foam, so when the people at HIBR sent me one to test, I was skeptical to justify the price. After sleeping on one for a few months, I can tell you that while it’s not for everyone, it’s good enough, I’m considering buying another.

All this pillow fuss?

You spend (hopefully) about eight hours each day in bed. That’s a lot of time – and a huge percentage of your life . Considering how much time you spend in bed and how important sleep is to your health , it is worth getting the best gear for a good night’s sleep. Don’t be afraid to find the perfect pillow or the perfect mattress. You also shouldn’t be afraid to put some money into it. The best thing you can do for your health is to replace a poor, uncomfortable mattress or unsupportive pillow with one that works best for you.

However, the HIBR pillow is definitely one of those improvements – both in terms of comfort and cost. It is available in three flavors:

  • “Simple” pillow : a standard rectangular pillow that tapers on all sides and oval on the sides. It is approximately 24.5 inches wide, 15 inches long, and 5 inches deep. It’s $ 79 direct from HIBR or Amazon .
  • Side Pillow : Designed for side sleepers, this wing-shaped pillow tapers at the edges but curves downward, ideal for lying on your neck without squeezing your shoulder. No more than 23 inches wide, 16 inches long (at the edges, not in the center), and 5 inches deep. It’s $ 79 direct or on Amazon . This is the version I tested.
  • Silhouette Pillow : This shape is more like the memory foam pillows you have seen. It is designed for people who sleep on their back (or people who want to sleep on their back), with two bumps, one for the neck and the other for cushioning the top of the head, and flat on the sides. It’s 21.5 “wide, just under 16” long, 5.1 “deep at the top and 4.1” deep at the bottom where your neck will rest. Like the others, it’s $ 79 direct from HIBR or Amazon .

If the words “memory foam” bother you, don’t worry. HIBR foam is less “soft” than memory foam pillows you may be familiar with. What you will immediately notice is how cool the HIBR is to the touch and how bouncy it is. You can push it through with your hand, but instead of watching your handprint slowly fade away and the foam expands again, it quickly bounces off. This speaks to the durability of HIBR, which is traditionally not offered by memory foam pillows.

HIBR attributes this hardness and coolness to a unique combination of materials. Rather than just sandwiching a hard layer between two layers of soft foam (like other memory foam pillows), they incorporate a cooling gel material throughout the foam. This makes the pillow elastic and supportive, yet comfortable to hold your head on for extended periods of time. Likewise, HIBR states that their foam includes hard gel capsules in the core, which, when heated, turn to liquid to soften the pillow even more – meaning that when you lower your head, the pillow becomes hard, but when you rest and sleep, it softens. over time to make you comfortable.

Where is it best

A lot of technology, ideas and designs have been invested in the HIBR Pillow, but it would be in vain if it was uncomfortable to sleep on, and after a few months of sleep it is really comfortable to sleep on. He definitely keeps his promises. It’s sturdy but not inflexible, so when I lower my head at night I can rest comfortably on it without feeling like I’m sleeping on a rock. It has enough energy to remind me that it is foam, but not enough to make me feel like my face is buried in it. It’s also small enough to hide in a suitcase or day bag if you’d like to use it a little while traveling (if you, like me, hate hotel pillows).

HIBR is also one of the coolest pillows I’ve slept on. It can get hot, but it definitely dissipates heat well, and I never had any of those moments flipping it over looking for a cool head spot but finding the other side warm too. While HIBR claims to have “hard” and “cool” sides, I found little difference between the sides, which is good. Both were hard and cool, even in the middle of the night after having slept on it for several hours. If you have a HIBR pillowcase, you probably won’t know which side is which, and that’s okay.

I mentioned that I was testing the side cushion as – at least early in the night – I sleep on my side. The curve cut from the bottom fits my shoulder perfectly and allows me to place the center of the pillow right in the middle of my head without feeling too high or too low. In fact, I was not the only person in my family who liked him – to the point that shortly after I started testing him, HIBR moved to the other side of the bed where it is today. That’s why I’m thinking about something else.

Where it fails

HIBR is great, but not for everyone, and it is not a lottery ticket for a good night’s sleep. Sleep is very individual and very important. People who like soft pillows like down, feather, or those hotel pillows that I hate (seriously, they are so soft I feel like I’m breathing in a pillow) will probably think that a HIBR pillow is like sleeping on a stove … from granite. If you prefer super soft and fluffy pillows, this is not for you. It is also worth noting that this is only spot cleaning. This pillow must not be thrown into the wash.

Likewise, all HIBR pillows are only five inches thick. If you are a big person (like me) or just need to keep your head a little higher, you will probably place the HIBR on a different pillow. This is not so much a deception as a need to remember. If you’re already sleeping with multiple pillows, this will likely replace the one on top. If you don’t, it’s not a problem, but don’t expect this to replace all of your pillows.

Finally, the HIBR Simple Pillow is the largest pillow they have to offer, and while my side pillow is slightly smaller, it is still noticeably small . When you compare it to other queen-sized pillows, it seems tiny and not the kind of pillow you can sleep on in a corner, roll over and still feel like there are more pillows. Place it in a standard queen-size pillowcase and you’ll have a lot of fabric on the sides. Of course, you don’t have to put it in a case – HIBR even says their fabric is a pillowcase, but chances are you will need a pillowcase anyway.

Bottom line: Expensive, but you won’t regret spending

So is HIBR worth its price? It depends on how much you are willing to spend on a pillow. I say yes, but I also say that a good night’s sleep is priceless. I’d rather go broke making sure you sleep well than save a few dollars and feel terrible every morning when I get up.

Plus, if you’re worried that HIBR is right for you, the company offers a “100 Nights Sleep Guarantee,” which means that if you try it, you’ll have 100 nights to return it for a full and full refund. Likewise, if you purchase a side pillow and find that you want a simple pillow or silhouette, they’ll even trade it for you for free. They even handle shipping for returns and exchanges. All of their pillows are manufactured in the United States and it should be noted that HIBR only ships to addresses in the United States.

At the end of the day, I don’t mind spending $ 80 on a pillow if it’s a great pillow and HIBR is a great pillow – one that fits any other pillow I should shame. However, this is not the only pillow on my bed and I don’t think HIBR will replace all of yours, as chances are you only buy one (maybe two if you want to avoid the aforementioned partner theft). .) I know that many people do not want or simply cannot refuse such money. Even so, if you spend the money, you won’t regret it, and a good night’s sleep is worth it.
