How to Succeed: a Productive Workplace for Guru David Allen
Getting Things Done (GTD) guru David Allen knows a thing or two about being efficient and productive. That’s why we can’t help but take a look at his workspace, which features a refreshing mix of analog and digital instruments.
This workspace is different from what we showed a few years ago . It’s definitely more streamlined, with reference stuff, inbox and stationery on the left, electronics mostly on the right. As Fast Company describes it:
A tour of his desk includes a box of facial tissues; a container containing a letter opener, Exacto knife, fountain pen, three markers, ballpoint pen and scissors; and a file rack, which he personally designed, containing about 20 file folders with shortcuts to clients’ current projects and work. It also has a MacBook Pro on a vertical stand that connects to a large screen, blue-tooth keyboard, and mouse pad.
Allen also has two different sized paper notebooks and a pen at the ready. “Both are designed to capture god knows what,” he says.
Allen no doubt has a ton of “God knows what” to handle. What I love about his workspace is that it is completely realistic, at least for people who work with paper like me (as opposed to many minimalistic desktops) – if you can get things organized all at once.
