Why There Aren’t Many Women in Technology and Why It Matters, in One Drawing

Technology and other STEM disciplines have marked disparities in gender and diversity. This figure explains several reasons why we are having this problem and why it is important.

NextGeneration Recruitment has collected statistics. Only about a quarter of US computing jobs are held by women. Women make up a minority of employees in technology companies, regardless of job title. Women are 45% more likely to quit STEM jobs than men in their first year.

In addition to the reasons below and the alienating culture , women’s own sensitivity to estimates can make these areas less attractive to them. However, the lack of diversity is actually a problem for all of us for the reasons shown in the figure.
