You Don’t Need an Expensive Pair of Sneakers

It’s important that you buy the right shoes for your preferred type of running , but there’s no reason to spend a fortune on them. A recent study looked at thousands of sneaker reviews and found that expensive pairs are generally less priced than their affordable counterparts.

The study by RunRepeat analyzed over 130,000 reviews of nearly 400 different pairs of sneakers. The reviews also covered 24 different brands, including all the popular brands such as Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Mizuno and Asics. Here’s what all this data suggests:

  1. The higher the list price, the lower the rating of the sneaker.
  2. The 10 most expensive sneakers (MSRP: $ 181) ranked 8.1% worse than the 10 cheapest sneakers (MSL average: $ 61).
  3. Running brands are priced 2.8% higher than running shoes from broad sports brands.
  4. The top three brands include # 1 Skechers, # 2 Saucony, and # 3 VibramFiveFingers, while the worst three ranked brands are # 22 New Balance, # 23 Adidas and # 24 Reebok. The Adidas Group owns both Reebok and Adidas.
  5. The three most affordable brands are Skechers # 1, Vivobarefoot # 2 and Puma # 3, while the three most expensive brands are # 22 On, 23 Newton and # 24 Hoka One One.

It’s hard not to look at an expensive pair of sneakers and assume that they will do wonders for your feet, but you’re probably just wasting money on brands and new designs. However, there is a chance that a slight bias is at play here. If you pay more for a pair of shoes, you can expect them to be better than a cheaper pair. If they are not, you can rate them harder. That being said, over-satisfaction with a perfectly suitable pair of shoes at a reasonable price seems to be better than dissatisfaction with the pair you spent $ 200 on.
