Use Your Credit Card Concierge Service As Your Personal Assistant

Your credit card can give you an advantage you hardly use, but it can be quite valuable: concierge services. It’s like using the hotel’s concierge service, but at any time, just by calling.

These services are available in Visa Signature, MasterCard World and World Elite, as well as on some American Express cards. A concierge can do everything from booking travel tickets to buying tickets for out-of-date events or hard-to-reach dining spots.

On a recent trip, my sister’s connecting flight was canceled due to the weather, and she and my young niece found themselves without a hotel room – at a time when the city was crowded with tourists and guests thanks to a huge soccer game. The Visa Signature Concierge Service checked every hotel in the area for room availability. Although we ended up not needing a room (the good Samaritans offered my double-booked room to my sister), I was impressed with how diligently the concierge called everyone and would not hesitate to use them again, especially in case of need for a trip.

In just 4 hours, Tim Ferris points out a few more unusual uses for the concierge: finding a giant tub of nacho cheese, solving a complex crossword puzzle, and researching the cost of booking a trip to space. Alas, there are things that the concierge cannot do, adds comments to Ferris’ post, such as inviting you for an interview to work on a sports team, planning a wedding, or doing your job for you.

However, concierge services are one of those additional benefits of credit cards that can come in handy.
