Use Sour Milk for Pancakes and Waffles

Many of us have a tendency to throw away food as soon as it reaches the specified expiration date, but there are still many benefits to this food. If you have milk that is starting to turn sour, you can still cook with it as if it were buttermilk.

It might sound a little off-putting, but Dana Gunders, author of The Zero Waste Kitchen Guide , suggested to NPR that you could give this cool milk another chance to taste something delicious:

In fact, cooking with yogurt is very tasty. Buttermilk substitute. You can [use] in pancake or cookie dough. And you don’t feel sour! I nudged him and the milk really aged. The pancakes are fluffy and really good … Next time you give a sniff test and are in doubt, use it like buttermilk in pancakes, waffles and other baked goods. It’s amazing how you don’t even feel the slightest bitterness.

Gunders, however, notes that there is still a limit. If it is a curdled bitter liquid that does start to separate, just throw it away. However, this little trick might just help you use up the rest of your milk without wasting it. However, if you know you won’t be able to use milk for a while, throw it in the freezer before leaving .
