Don’t Brainstorm From Scratch
When you are brainstorming, you often want to just let the ideas emerge, however they decide. However, this usually does not take you far. 99U notes that it is often better to use some kind of constraint or random target.
We’ve talked about setting limits before , but the idea here is more to guide those ideas. If you try to just come up with an idea from scratch, you have no plan or direction and you won’t get anywhere. Constraints are an easy way to do it:
What if your idea only worked from 2:13 pm to 2:15 pm every day? What if your mobile app could only display one sentence and one button at a time … What can we do about it? This is usually much more than you think.
So, the next time you try to come up with an idea, concentrate a little more and see what happens.
