Break the Ice and Make Friends at Conferences With Your Power Strip
Conferences and conventions are great places to meet people, but introducing yourself to random strangers can be a little nervous. Plugging in an extension cord can greatly simplify the entire process.
If you want to meet some people but would rather have them come to you, Entrepreneur’s Jonathan Long suggests that you pack an extension cord in your everyday bag and plug it into an outlet:
All present are armed with mobile devices, tablets and laptops, so sockets are the most valuable commodity at the conference. Throw the entire extension cord into your bag. This allows you to achieve two goals: your devices will never be left without recharging, and you will instantly become the hero of the conference for those around you.
People will see an extension cord and think that you are also inviting others to charge their devices. You already have something to start a conversation with, and you can jump straight to a simple introduction or conversation about a conference. Better yet, if there is a group of people already waiting to charge at the outlet, you too can come up and save the day. Giving before asking is one of the basic rules for successful networking , and everyone will be grateful that you gave them power.
